MORE

"The Academy-Award nominated animated short-film by Mark Osborne tells the story of a lonely inventor, whose colorless existence is brightened only by dreams of the carefree bliss of his youth.

By day, he is trapped in a dehumanizing job in a joyless world. But by night, he tinkers away on a visionary invention, desperate to translate his inspiration into something meaningful.

When his invention is complete, it will change the way people see the world. But he will find that success comes at a high price, as it changes himself, as well."

My thoughts when I first watched the video?
- Greed changes a person for the worse.
- We have to sacrifice something to make our dreams come true.
- We look back to our happy childhood and feel nostalgic.
- We can change the way people see the world, but we can never change human nature.

I love folktales/fairy tales because they invoke our imagination to be wild, fun, and childlike. This is a lovely story of how sky used to be low, and how the children helped it go high!

Dale Carnegie

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

I don't forget the fact that I am just a human being. I worry about unnecessary things in life. I want to be strong but I admit, I am a weak person. My pride gets in my way and I fret over mistakes that I'll make one day. I complain about life because I don't have any control over it. I see myself as a hypocrite when I act optimistic. Being positive sometimes seems impossible. I don't know how to handle unexpected situations. I get angry over people who are unreasonable.

Dale Carnegie quotes never fail to cheer me up though.

Dale Carnegie Quotes:

Remember happiness doesn't depend upon who you are or what you have; it depends solely on what you think.

Our fatigue is often caused not by work, but by worry, frustration and resentment.

One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today.

Men of age object too much, consult too long, adventure too little, repent too soon, and seldom drive business home to the full period, but content themselves with a mediocrity of success.

Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain but it takes character and self control to be understanding and forgiving.

Are you bored with life? Then throw yourself into some work you believe in with all your heart, live for it, die for it, and you will find happiness that you had thought could never be yours.

Develop success from failures. Discouragement and failure are two of the surest stepping stones to success.

Do the thing you fear to do and keep on doing it... that is the quickest and surest way ever yet discovered to conquer fear.

Each nation feels superior to other nations. That breeds patriotism - and wars.

Feeling sorry for yourself, and your present condition, is not only a waste of energy but the worst habit you could possibly have.

First ask yourself: What is the worst that can happen? Then prepare to accept it. Then proceed to improve on the worst.

If you can't sleep, then get up and do something instead of lying there worrying. It's the worry that gets you, not the lack of sleep.

Instead of worrying about what people say of you, why not spend time trying to accomplish something they will admire.

It isn't what you have, or who you are, or where you are, or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about.

When dealing with people, remember you are not dealing with creatures of logic, but creatures of emotion.

The only way to get the best of an argument is to avoid it.

The ideas I stand for are not mine. I borrowed them from Socrates. I swiped them from Chesterfield. I stole them from Jesus. And I put them in a book. If you don't like their rules, whose would you use?

The expression a woman wears on her face is far more important than the clothes she wears on her back.

The essence of all art is to have pleasure in giving pleasure.

Success is getting what you want. Happiness is wanting what you get.

"Stay In My Memory" by Bim

This video was one of the featured video in Youtube this week. I love the animation and it suits the song. It must have taken ages to complete it.

The girl reminds me of the journey I am taking without my boyfriend, Stephen. I had to move away from New York to achieve my dreams. I was in denial for a while that I abandoned the place of comfort, my home, but I realised something important when I stepped into the airport; To travel means to have no home. A chance to live around the world is a great opportunity most people will not have. I still love and will love Stephen for the rest of my life, but I chose to take this journey alone. Why? Because I am the only one who is able to turn my dream into reality. No one can do it for me.

Casiotone for the Painfully Alone - White Corolla

This song is stuck in my head! Julia Pott is one of my favourite animators. Her animations show playfulness and humour, and I just love all her animal characters.

Manna Ash House

When I first moved in, it was clean like this, of course... Now it's messy!

My accommodation in London, Manna Ash House. I can't afford to live in an apartment since everything here is so expensive (£1 is equal to $2. So everything here is double the price). Even the food is ridiculously expensive.

I'm satisfied with everything else though. Manna Ash House is literally about 1 minute walk away from Southwark tube station. I can walk to famous sites like London Bridge and Tate Modern in less than 20 minutes. It takes about 30 minutes to get to my school in bus.

I try to clean my room at least twice a week, but I get it messy every single day. It is unavoidable since I am an art student. My life can't be separated from ART! When I get my own apartment in the future, it'll be like an art studio combined with a bed, kitchen, and a bathroom. Augh, I'm so frustrated. I try to clean up the mess as soon as possible since I don't want to make another mess on top of a mess...

Robot High School

I can't get this song out of my head. Every time when I listen to this song in my ipod, I can picture this video in my head. The limited use of color made this video simple and eye-catching. I love to use black, white, and red in my illustrations to get straight to the point. This video has used the same strategy.

"The music video address the issues of how perspective can manipulate our view of reality." ~Robot High School.
The viewer is able to focus on the black ball because the background is white (with black line patterns and polka dots). The ball hits and breaks the red balloons as a man in the red suit spins the wheel. In my opinion, the black ball represents "our view of reality", the red balloons portray "reality" and the man in the red suit symbolizes "perspective." Really simple and gets straight to the point.

Kiwi!

I don't want to spoil it by describing what happens in the video, but I can definitely tell you that it is one of my favorite videos of all time.

All I can say is... I want to dream and live like Kiwi.

The Alchemist

One of my favorite novels:

A quick note from Mr. Law: It is a book written by Paulo Coelho, translated by Alan R. Clarke. Note that I regard "destiny" as one's mission when one is living on earth, and it is given by God. "Fate", on the contrary, is just an excuse to avoid fulfilling their destiny.

Some of my favorite lines from the book:

~Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own.

~No matter what he does, every person on earth plays a central role in the history of the world. And normally he doesn't know it.

~"Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second encounter with God and with eternity."

~It's the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.

~It's the simple things in life that are the most extraordinary; only wise men are able to understand them.

~"What's the world's greatest lie?" the boy asked, completely surprised. "It's this: that at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what's happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That's the world's greatest lie."

~"It (destiny) is what you have always wanted to accomplish. Everyone, when they are young, knows what their destiny is. At that point in their lives, everything is clear and everything is possible. They are not afraid to dream, and to yearn for everything they would like to see happen to them in their lives. But, as time passes, a mysterious force begins to convince them that it will be impossible for them to realize their destiny....It (mysterious force) is a force that appears to be negative, but actually shows you how to realize your destiny..."

~I'm like everyone else -- I see the world in terms of what I would like to see happen, not what actually does.

~The closer one gets to realizing his destiny, the more that destiny becomes his true reason for being...

~People need not fear the unknown if they are capable of achieving what they need and want. We are afraid of losing what we have, whether it's our life or our possessions and property. But this fear evaporates when we understand that our life stories and the history of the world were written by the same Hand.

~The secret is here in the present. If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it. And, if you improve on the present, what comes later will also be better. Forget about the future, and live each day according to the teachings, confident that God loves his children. Each day, in itself, brings with it an eternity.

~Love never keeps a man from pursuing his destiny.

~"Even though I complain sometimes, " it (heart) said, "it's because I'm the heart of a person, and people's hearts are that way. People are afraid to pursue their most important dreams, because they feel that they don't deserve them, or that they'll be unable to achieve them. We, their hearts, become fearful just thinking of loved ones who go away forever, or of moments that could have been good but weren't, or of treasures that might have been found but were forever hidden in the sands. Because, when these things happen, we suffer terribly."

~Life really is generous to those who pursue their destiny.

Success!

Activity or possession do not equal to success. The result of your hard work and the satisfaction you receive are the true success in life. I've seen many who bragged about themselves. Every time they tell me what they do or what they have, I tell them this: "SO WHAT!?" I consider myself an artist, not because I draw and paint, but because I put my everything on what I do. Success has a different meaning depending on each person. I don't believe in failure, but I believe in success. Right now, I truly feel successful. I feel satisfied to see the result of my work and I always seek to improve myself as a person and as an artist.

"The greatest barrier to success is the fear of failure." ~ Sven Goran Eriksson

"The first step toward success is taken when you refuse to be a captive of the environment in which you first find yourself." ~ Mark Caine

"Success is focusing the full power of all you are on what you have a burning desire to achieve." ~Wilfred Peterson

"A great leader's courage to fulfill his vision comes from passion, not position" ~ John Maxwell

"Success means having the courage, the determination, and the will to become the person you believe you were meant to be." ~George Sheehan

"Victory is sweetest when you've known defeat." ~ Malcolm S. Forbes

"Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful." ~Herman Cain

"Success is not measured by what you accomplish, but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds." ~Orison Swett Marden

"Don't wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect condition. So what. Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful." ~Mark Victor Hansen

"To succeed in life, you need two things: ignorance and confidence." ~Mark Twain

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children...to leave the world a better place...to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

"For success, attitude is equally as important as ability." ~Harry F. Banks

"Striving for success without hard work is like trying to harvest where you haven't planted." ~David Bly

"Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude." ~Zig Ziglar

"There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure." ~Colin Powell

"Success is doing ordinary things extraordinarily well." ~Jim Rohn

"Success is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm." ~Winston Churchill

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." ~Winston Churchill

"For true success ask yourself these four questions: Why? Why not? Why not me? Why not now?" ~James Allen

"Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success" ~Napoleon Hill

"Success is a journey, not a destination." ~Ben Sweetland

"Success is getting what you want; happiness is wanting what you get." ~Ingrid Bergman

"Success is determined by those whom prove the impossible, possible." ~James W. Pence

"You might well remember that nothing can bring you success but yourself." ~Napoleon Hill.

"Success is not to be pursued; it is to be attracted by the person you become." ~Jim Rohn

"Success builds character, failure reveals it." ~Dave Checkett

"Success is 99 percent failure." Soichiro Honda

"God doesn't require us to succeed; he only requires that you try." ~Mother Teresa of Calcutta

"Develop success from failure. Discouragement and failure are two of the surest stepping stones to success." ~Dale Carnegie

"Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going." ~Jim Rohn

"It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves." ~Edmund Hillary
